Description

Do you enjoy the freedom of the open road and want a career that doesn’t involve sitting behind a desk?

Delaware Tech’s CDL curriculum combines classroom study with practical experience behind the wheel of diesel-powered tractor trailers on a private training range as well as public streets and highways. You’ll also learn the intricacies of handling a variety of truck types and cargo, conducting required inspections, proper reporting and documentation requirements, and trip planning techniques – all in a small class-size environment.

This certificate program is available in a structured environment of weekday study. You'll gain the knowledge and skills necessary to earn your CDL Class A Driver's License. Our industry recognized CDL Program includes:

Fundamentals of Motor Fleet Safety
Learn the safety fundamentals, essential regulatory requirements, and driver responsibilities not directly related to driving. Federal and state regulations governing commercial drivers and motor carriers are also explained.

Vehicle Systems and Reporting Malfunctions
Students will become familiar with tractor-trailer vehicle systems and the proper procedures for handling and reporting vehicle malfunctions.

Tractor-Trailer Operations
Students will be introduced to the combination vehicle (tractor-trailer) control systems and control concepts. Vehicle inspection procedures and requirements, coupling and uncoupling procedures, and shifting procedures and patterns are also covered.

Road Driving Practices
Students will develop the basic control skills necessary to operate tractor trailer vehicles on the public roadways through behind-the-wheel training.

Range Driving Practices
Learn the basic control skills necessary to safely operate tractor-trailer vehicles through a series of maneuvering exercises. Skill development and learning occurs through behind-the wheel training to include shifting, backing, inspection, and coupling/uncoupling.

Professional Driver Development
Gain a practical introduction to the trucking industry from the perspective of a commercial driver applicant by discussing commercial driver qualifications, job seeking skills, substance abuse awareness, driver wellness, and whistleblower protection.
