Description

This program is designed for those working in or desiring employment in central service. The central service technician is responsible for the procurement of surgical supplies and equipment. Central service technicians provide support to all patient care services in healthcare facilities. They are responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, processing, assembling, sterilizing, storing and distributing the medical devices and supplies needed in patient care, especially during surgery. Students will study theories on disinfection, cleaning and decontamination, infection prevention and control; sterilization processes; regulations and standards; safety; inventory management; and professional communication. Upon completion of the program and 400 internship hours, students will be eligible to sit for the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)/HSPA. Tuition includes textbook, background check, drug screen, certification exam, supplies, and internship/clinical lab experience. *Internship/clinical experience included (hours may vary from course schedule).                           


Minimum 10.0 grade-level equivalent in Reading required.
