Job Description
The City of Newark is seeking a highly skilled and technically proficient Billing Technician to join
the Finance Department. This technical position within the Payments & Utility Billing Division is
responsible for performing municipal utility billing and customer account maintenance for
electric, water, sewer, and stormwater services. Annual salary range of $57,325 – $83,286 with
a hiring range of $57,325 – $72,534 commensurate with prior experience. Excellent fringe

union contract salary increase would be Step A or 4% increase, whichever is higher. CWA Pay
Grade 13.
Responsibilities include processing utility billing cycles, reviewing billing data for accuracy,
researching and resolving billing errors, and reviewing meter information. Work is performed in
accordance with established guidelines and under limited supervision. Experience utilizing an
automated billing or customer information system is preferred. The successful candidate will
possess strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills and the
ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy. Basic to intermediate Microsoft
Excel proficiency and the ability to efficiently utilize multiple computer applications in a high
paced environment are also desired.
