KITCHEN HELPER - REGULAR PART-TIME    SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The primary focus of this position is to assist the Kitchen Food Manager in preparing meal trays, serving food, maintaining kitchen work areas in a neat and organized manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This listing is representative of the duties and responsibilities of the position, but is not to be construed as all inclusive:
  1. Fills individual serving cartons with portions of various foods and condiments such as cream, jams and sauces.
  2. Serves salads, vegetables, meat and breads; ladles soup and sauces; portions desserts; and fills beverage cups and glasses as indicated.
  3. Replenishes foods at serving stations.
  4. Brews coffee and tea.
  5. Operates heat seal machine.
  6. Monitor food temperatures using thermometers.
  7. Transfers supplies and equipment between storage and work areas.
  8. Maintains cleanliness of work stations.  Washes dishes and workables, walls, refrigerators and meat blocks.
  9. Segregates and removes trash and places it in designated containers.
  10. Scrubs and polishes counters, steam tables and other equipment.
  11. Stocks supply room with supplies and food.
  12. Labels packaging for distribution to homebound seniors.
  13. Other duties as deemed necessary by the Kitchen Manager or Program Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Minimum requirements for this position are:  
  1. Shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences.

  4. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; completes work in a timely manner; observes safety and security procedures; uses equipment and materials properly.
  5. Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  6. Must be able to reach with hands and arms; stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  7. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  8. High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  9. Minimum of two years kitchen experience.
  10. Knowledge of and ability to safely operate kitchen equipment such as knives, ovens and dishwashers.
  11. Ability to follow basic cooking routines.
  12. Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
REPORTING:  This position reports to the Food Service Manager. 

PRIMARY WORK LOCATION: Most duties and functions will be performed at CHEER locations.

WORK HOURS: Variable. Monday - Friday 7:30am - 1:30pm.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time (20-29 hours per week) Non-Exempt   BENEFIT ELIGIBILITY: Regular part-time eligibility includes paid time off (PTO) based on hours worked and years of service. 403(b) Retirement plan – no match.
