Position Summary:

The Logistics Manager oversees all aspects of the plant’s supply chain, logistics, and distribution operations to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery of products to customers. This role manages the flow of materials and products from suppliers through manufacturing to customers, balancing operational excellence with customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate brings expertise in both manufacturing logistics and distribution network management.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Supply Chain & Logistics Management

  • Develop and implement logistics strategies to optimize inbound and outbound transportation, warehouse operations, and distribution networks.
  • Manage vendor and customer relationships for transportation and warehousing to ensure cost-effective and reliable service.
  • Coordinate raw material delivery schedules to align with production requirements and minimize downtime.
  • Work with Inventory Manager to understand finished goods inventory to support customer delivery timelines and avoid stockouts or overages.
  • Develop and implement logistics strategy in conjunction with Plant Manager and Scheduling Manager to minimize driving times and maximize on-time delivery to customers.  This could include assessing established routes versus GPS routes.

Operations & Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with production and purchasing teams to align supply chain activities with manufacturing and delivery schedules.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Design and implement logistics processes that support lean manufacturing and just-in-time (JIT) delivery models.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, train, and develop drivers to operate according to the company’s policies.  As the business grows, develop a logistics team including warehouse staff, and shipping/receiving to sustain established processes.
  • Establish clear performance goals and provide regular feedback to foster a high-performing team environment for all drivers and direct reports.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation regulations (DOT, OSHA, etc.).
  • Manage all required licensing and permitting for vehicle fleet.
  • Oversee documentation and recordkeeping for all logistics activities including bills of lading, customs forms, and shipment tracking.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within logistics operations.
