(STREET CLEANING DIVISION)
Department: Public Works Salary: “Level 6” $45,847 to $64,185 per year

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Assist or perform as the supervisor in coordinating and training small crews of employees in performing routine and repetitive duties.

Operate various types of moderately complex maintenance equipment and frequently participates in the work performed. Work assignments require operation of lower classification equipment and perform preventive maintenance on such equipment.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates front-end loader, mechanical sweeper, leaf loader, crew cabs, stake body truck, flusher, skid steerer, garbage and dump trucks; tractor or riding mower.

Trains small crew of unskilled workers, clean up oil spills, respond to special complaints relating to unmarked hazardous materials, dead animals, poison ivy, bed bugs and similar items as part of the duties.

Assist with City’ events, snow removal and hurricane or flood debris removal.

Apply salt and brine applications to City street.

Washes and performs preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles. Performs all related work as required by the supervisor.

Possess and maintain a valid “CDL” Class “A” driver’s license with an active medical examiner’s certificate, Tanker endorsement preferred, a good driving record, and ability to pass drug screening as mandated by Federal Department of Transportation for CDL drivers.

Must be able to work overtime as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Regularly works in outside weather conditions. Works in inclement weather. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. Specific vision required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
