PRIMARY FUNCTION:
➢
Performs semi-skilled work in the operation of machinery and equipment in a drinking water filter plant. Duties include chemical testing and careful observation of plant processes, interpreting water quality information, adjusting chemical feed equipment, and operating/regulating process control devices.
➢
Work is reviewed by the Water Production Supervisor through inspection and by observing the effectiveness of equipment operations.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
➢
Monitors SCADA and on-line instrumentation and documents readings. Brings major mechanical defects to the attention of the supervisor. Determine and maintain proper flow rates in accordance with water consumption demand.
➢
Operates filters and checks to ascertain whether they need backwashing. Performs visual inspections, collects water samples, and conducts routine chemical analyses; prepares routine reports of operation during assigned shift. Makes adjustments to various chemical feeders to maintain proper chemical dosage. Performs all related work as required including minor maintenance activities.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Must obtain the State of Delaware Base Level Water Operator License upon first opportunity.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
➢
Work is performed mostly in a plant setting. Noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Some outdoor work is required in the maintenance of various land use developments, construction sites. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations. Occasionally exposed to electrical shock.

Regularly required to reach with hands and arms. Frequently is required to stand, walk, and use hands to fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear. Vision abilities required.

Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
