Summary of Position

The Assistant Bursar position will perform day-to-day financial operations for student accounts. The position is primarily responsible for tuition billing, processing payments, and VA Education Benefits processing. This individual will provide excellent customer service to our students and staff, will maintain relationships with third-party payers and vendors, will maintain timely and accurate records, and will ensure adherence to college and regulatory policies. This position will work closely with student advisors to ensure seamless registration and payment experiences.

Key Responsibilities

+ Serve as School Certifying Official (SCO) with all incumbent responsibilities for certifying student eligibility for veteran education benefits and maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and veteran services regulations.

+ Maintain timely and accurate records of tuition received, ensure timely collection of overdue balances, and appropriately process holds.

+ Process third-party billings for payment by government entities, employers, and other outside companies.

+ Provide incoming enrolled students with guidance to successfully finance their education.

+ Other job responsibilities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

+ Requires a Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field, and at least one year of experience in a student billing related environment

+ Current experience as a School Certifying Official through the Veterans Administration is preferred

+ Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment by multi-tasking and prioritizing effectively

+ Comfort working with financial data and systems, and proven ability to analyze and report on financial data

+ Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate and work effectively with students, staff, and administrators

+ Positive interpersonal skills including ability to work collaboratively and be a team-orientated leader or supervisor

+ Initiative and resourcefulness to work independently, think innovatively, and openness to new ways of doing things

+ Critical thinking and sound decision-making in ambiguous situations

Reporting Relationships

+ The Assistant Bursar will report to the Bursar.

Work Environment

+ Remote work environment. Travel is required up to twice a year for in-person meetings.

The base salary range for this position is between $55,000 and $60,000. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location and relevant experience, education, certifications, and years of experience. There is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.
