Job Description

The Machinist works directly with the maintenance department to support production. They fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. They write basic CNC programs, modify existing programs, and tend CNC machines. The machinist must work with a high level of accuracy and efficiency to design and manufacture custom welding fixtures and machine tooling given the desired part or product.

Tasks:

  • Use specialty machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and CNC machining centers to produce precision parts
  • Knowledge of set-up, operation, and inspection of typical machine shop equipment (such as listed above)
  • Work together with Product Design Fabricator to create custom robot welding fixtures for production
  • Write basic CNC programs, modify existing programs, and tend CNC machines
  • Read and interpret CAD drawings and specifications
  • Able to work with tolerances as specified on drawings
  • Process work order requests from production, engineering, and other departments for items to be made using specialty machine tools.
