Summary
The Environmental, Health and Safety Center of Excellence (COE) team in DuPont’s Operations and Engineering corporate function is seeking a Fire Protection Engineering Consultant to join us. This position will provide technical expertise and advice in the Fire Protection related competency to all of DuPont sites and businesses globally. The position will collaborate with global, business and site fire protection professionals to effectively communicate, implement and administer the DuPont Fire Safety strategy and programs. The position will report administratively and receive functional guidance from the Global Fire Safety Competency Leader.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and technical individual. Approximately 10% travel may be required.
This individual would provide Fire Protection system expertise and technical support to manufacturing sites and capital project teams to ensure facilities, employees and businesses are safe from the threat of fire. As a member of a project team, the Fire Protection Engineer is expected to network, coordinate and collaborate with all the team members including engineering contractors and other discipline engineers to deliver specifications and detailed engineering documents related to fire protection. As a consultant to existing facilities, the Fire Protection Engineer is responsible for performing fire safety evaluations including code/standards compliance reviews of buildings and industrial complexes to determine not only the risk of fire and explosions, but how best to prevent them. The Fire Protection Engineer is also a key member of the Global Fire Safety Competency and is responsible for coaching, training, and providing technical expertise as needed to less experienced engineers and site fire safety resources engaged in fire system review and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
+ Perform fire hazard and risk analysis including hazardous area determination
+ Provide life safety analysis
+ Participate in 2nd and 3rd party facility fire safety audits
+ Develop fire protection strategies for protecting chemical, warehousing/storage, and office facilities
+ Provide technical guidance and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code interpretations to engineers, contractors and building owners
+ Conduct fire code reviews and analyses, and integrate various NFPA code requirements to assure compliance with company standards and adopted regulations.
+ Work with engineers of other disciplines to make recommendations to the company for cost effective fire protection solutions.
+ Specify/prepare fire safety systems and equipment design including fire detection, alarm, and fire suppression system, fire pump and water flow, smoke control, emergency lighting, communication, and egress systems
+ Evaluate the performance of existing fire protection systems to verify that they are suitable for the hazards they protect
+ Provide fire protection system inspection and testing oversight including pumps, fire water storage and distribution systems, alarms, and suppression systems
+ Prepare and write technical reports.
+ Plan and perform commissioning tests on all levels of fire protection systems
+ Assist in project process hazard analysis and safety reviews
+ Deliver/assist with training seminars and presentations
+ Assist with on-site construction quality reviews, site observation, and system testing
+ Assist with the development emergency response plans and procedures
+ Act as liaison with code enforcement officials
+ Conduct fire cause investigations including root cause failure analysis
+ Participate in external standards development organizations, such as NFPA Technical Committees
Minimum Skills Required
+ Fire Protection Engineering (preferred) or Chemical Engineering degree.
+ Fire protection system design knowledge and 3-5 years of experience in the chemical manufacturing or industrial sector
+ Proven expertise with NFPA standards interpretation and guidance
+ Understanding and competency in fire safety and fire protection systems, including special hazards systems
+ Experience in reading engineering design drawings (P&ID, PFD, instrument diagrams, etc).
+ Experience in producing technical reports.
+ Knowledge of fire safety management systems for safeguarding facilities and processes.
+ Knowledge of general construction methods, practices, and terminology.
+ Emergency Response Experience or Emergency Response Management (preferred)
+ High Hazard Operation Experience (preferred)

The ability to work independently, manage multiple jobs simultaneously, organize work and set priorities is also required.
