The Manager of Fraud Investigations is responsible for supervising Fraud Investigators, and conducting comprehensive investigations into external fraud matters, including check fraud, wire fraud, ACH fraud, account take over, identity theft, new account fraud, elderly exploitation, loan fraud, and other types of fraud, and internal fraud matters. The incumbent will also review and assess allegations of suspected fraud; utilizing investigative techniques to identify fraud suspects, detect fraudulent transactions, and prevent losses that occur from fraudulent activities.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Fraud Investigators including assessing external fraud allegations/referrals, assigning investigations, reviewing their investigative reports, providing guidance and direction, and ensuring quality work.
  • Conduct in-depth financial investigations of fraud matters including cyber related fraud, check fraud, wire fraud, account take over, identity theft, new account fraud, elderly exploitation, loan fraud, and other types of fraud, including internal fraud.
  • Identify and analyze new and emerging patterns of fraud and work with internal and external stakeholders to implement new controls.
  • Work with cross-functional teams across the company for collaboration on fraud risks and investigations and communicate findings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assess fraud prevention, detection, and mitigation controls, processes and technology throughout the bank and its subsidiaries, including participation in conducting the company's enterprise-wide fraud risk assessment on an annual basis.
  • Liaison with law enforcement, financial institutions, merchants, and customers to stay abreast of current fraud trends, mitigate fraud losses, and maximize recoveries.
  • Represent the Fraud Department on bank-wide projects or working groups, such as those involving the implementation of new technologies or new products or services.
  • Complete clear, comprehensive, and accurate Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) on fraud matters in accordance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and bank policy.
  • Provide fraud awareness training to Associates and Customers.
  • Support projects related to fraud prevention, detection, mitigation, remediation, and education as a subject matter expert.
  • Work closely with other bank areas, including Commercial and Consumer banking and operations to assist with detecting, investigating and deterring fraud against the bank and its customers.
  • Partner with law enforcement, financial institutions, merchants, and customers to mitigate fraud losses; facilitating recovery of funds to minimize fraud losses to the bank and its customers; documenting investigative activities, including memorializing interviews and authoring reports; attending court as required on behalf of the bank; keeping apprised of industry fraud trends; serving as liaison with the business lines, financial institution partners and law enforcement on financial crime matters; representing the Fraud Department on bank-wide projects, initiatives and working groups.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional certifications preferred to include:
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) - Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
  • Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI) - International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) - Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists
  • Certified Cyber Crimes Investigator (CCCI) - International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators
  • Ten plus years of investigative experience which includes matters involving financial institution fraud, cybercrime, and identity theft.
  • Prior law enforcement experience is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills including a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task, adapt to changing priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Must have strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to work in a collaborative environment as well as independently.
  • Must have the ability to manage time-sensitive projects.
  • Must have the ability to lead and manage direct reports, including training, mentoring, and counseling.
  • A working knowledge of bank products, services, bank systems and transaction types preferred.
