POSITION DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION POSITION TITLE: Rotary Wing Technician DATE: August 2023 FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt DEPT: General Aviation LOC: Delaware POSITION SUMMARY: The Rotary Wing Technician reports to the Rotary Wing Service Supervisor and is responsible for field and shop repair and maintenance of helicopters to ensure airworthiness. Under general direction, repairs, overhauls, inspects, maintains, cleans, and returns helicopters to service; performs related work as required. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Troubleshoots aircraft malfunctions to accurately diagnose and repair problems. Performs required maintenance and repair of aircraft systems and assemblies, including all hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical components, to maintain airworthiness of aircraft. Performs inspections of aircraft to determine repair and maintenance work needed, and to recommend the feasibility of repairs. Conducts and observes tests and systems checks with pilot during test flights to functionally test aircraft systems. Assists other personnel as required to manipulate large, heavy, or awkward aircraft parts (e.g., the removal or replacement of the engine, main transmission assembly, etc.). Maintains airframe and fuselage to control corrosion and preserve appearance. Approves and returns aircraft to service after minor repairs and/or alterations. Maintains logbooks and other records to provide required documentation of aircraft maintenance and repairs. Maintains ground support equipment. Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years of prior experience as an aviation fixed wing mechanic preferred and an A&P/IA license required. Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully an individual should have the ability to interact with and enter data into spreadsheet software. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work effectively and contribute in a team environment and self-direct work. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; walk, talk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions such as extreme cold and heat, work near moving mechanical parts and vibration and work in high, precarious places. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and work with explosives. The noise level in the work environment falls within acceptable limits of OSHA guidelines.
