The Global Engineering Technology (GET) team in DuPont’s Water & Protection (W&P) business is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to join us at our Wilmington, Delaware offices. The W&P business is home to iconic brands such as Corian®, Kevlar®, Nomex®, and Tyvek® , as well as innovative water filtration and building solution products. Members of GET provide critical engineering support to the design, construction, and enhancement of W&P manufacturing operations across the globe.
The Mechanical Systems Engineer will be responsible for the development and improvement of electromechanical systems throughout W&P operations. Electromechanical System design and development needs will range from designing improvements to existing manufacturing equipment to the development of new, custom-designed equipment as part of R&D or Capital projects. The engineer will be responsible for transforming concepts from customers into proof-of-principle designs, prototypes, and/or commercial-scale equipment.
Your Key Responsibilities:
+ Develop first-of-a-kind custom equipment including conceptualizing new equipment based on customer and business requirements.
+ Work with operations, maintenance, safety, and engineering to design improvements to existing equipment.
+ Perform engineering calculations to determine speeds, loads, and other data required for sizing equipment.
+ Ensure accuracy, completeness, and feasibility of designs and specifications as well as adherence to applicable mechanical and safety standards.
+ Support operations, maintenance, and engineering to troubleshoot and resolve production and quality issues in manufacturing plants.
+ Effectively manage multiple programs with focus on meeting cost and timing commitments while maintaining high quality work.
+ Communicate project objectives effectively, both written and verbal, to team members, plant personnel, and leadership.
+ Develop capital project basic data packages, equipment specifications, and fabrication and installation scopes of work. Visit vendor shops to monitor fabrication quality and witness factory acceptance tests. Provide onsite support during equipment installation and commissioning/startup.
+ Generate accurate cost estimates for design and engineering manhours, design contractor manhours, equipment installation costs, installation manhours, and startup manhours.
Qualifications:
+ BS in Mechanical Engineering required. MS in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
+ 7+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
+ Knowledge of commercial fabrication techniques, machining practices, inspection processes, fastening systems, machine dynamics, system controls, surface finishes, machine safety, and internal/external support systems.
+ Experience with Finite Element Analysis tools (eg Creo Simulate) to conduct stress analyses.
+ Deep understanding of interactions between mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines in relation to machine design.
+ Able to work independently and with a team.
+ Able to write technical equipment specifications for equipment purchases and write scopes of work for engineering, design, and installation of equipment.
+ Ability to implement machine safety systems (field input devices and safety controllers / relays) as defined by machine risk assessments.
+ Position may require 10% travel (US based and International).
+ Advanced usage of MS Office 365 products, CAD software, and various vendor software.
