Job Summary (Primary function) The Associated Director/Director, Antibody Engineering and Discovery focuses on the discovery and development of monoclonal and bispecific antibodies for therapeutic applications. The AD/ Director leads the protein engineering and analytic/biophysical groups responsible for the characterization of antibodies and protein compounds, supports all discovery activities from program inception through candidate nomination as well as the design, production and QC of tool compounds and novel biotherapeutic modalities. Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities) Implement and develop processes to support screening campaigns as well as the transition to development programs. Responsible for directing the activities of the Analytic Group to conduct biophysical analysis of therapeutic leads. Lead the protein engineering activities focusing on the development of new antibody modalities Participate as a technology lead in Ab discovery programs, especially on bispecific antibody projects. Work with multiple CROs and internal resources across the organization to accomplish program objectives. Support activities geared to new target evaluation and validation activities. Recruit and manage the personnel of the Engineering and Biophysical characterization group. Work with partners in the organization, CMC; ATG; Translational, to facilitate the optimal progression of programs. Identify and introduce appropriated strategies to keep the group current with state-of-the-art practices. Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency) Ph.D. in protein biochemistry, structural biology , or related field plus a minimum of 7 years of experience in biophysical characterization of protein and antibody (IgG) variants. Expertise in the application of various protein biophysical characterization techniques such as DSC, CD, AUC, SEC, light scattering, fluorescence spectroscopy for antibody characterization. Experience in antibody engineering and structure-function is highly desirable. Prior experience on engineering and analytic characterization/development of bispecific antibody preferred. Demonstrate expertise as a technology/project lead in antibody discovery projects. Experience on protein expression / purification preferred. Experience on protein structural modeling and design (Rosetta, MOE, Discovery Studio) preferred. Participate in the setting and organization of new analytical groups/laboratories. Prior experience working in a matrix environment preferred. Demonstrate ability to work in a highly collaborative multicultural team environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills, self-driven, creative, and entrepreneurial.
