Job Summary (Primary function)
The Senior Research Scientist, Chemistry develops and optimizes chemical reactions for the synthesis of novel compounds that meet nomination criteria.
Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)
Application of medicinal chemistry principles in discovery chemistry, and has good understanding of structure-activity relationships, and makes significant contribution to the SAR studies for the project(s).
Independently design/conduct organic chemistry experiments to develop and optimize the synthesis of novel compounds.
Scale-up compounds as necessary for SAR and ADME studies.
Understand the mechanisms of a broad range of chemical reactions and utilizes principles of Organic Chemistry to assist drug discovery - can propose mechanism of new chemical reactions.
Utilize literature searching tools to design experiments to incorporate concepts into context of experimental work.
Utilize a variety of analytical and preparative instruments to purify and characterize reactions and products using standard chromatographic techniques (e.g. HPLC, GC, TLC, LC-MS, NMR, UV, etc.).
Maintain an up-to-date electronic notebook.
Design appropriate experiments and provides suitable data for patent applications.
Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)
MS in Organic Chemistry, or equivalent.
7 years related organic chemistry experience.
Life-long learner: leverages extensive use of the literature to increase knowledge base in all aspects of medicinal and organic chemistry.
Able to collaboratively work with other members in the team and department.
Able to follow the safety rules and maintain a safe working environment.
