Job Description
Job Summary: Performs responsible technical and skilled work in the installation and
maintenance of electric power distribution systems.
The Electric Line Technician, Third Class shall be committed to the mission, vision and values
of the City and demonstrate such through ethical conduct, community stewardship, individual
initiative and responsive service. The Electric Line Technician, Third Class shall demonstrate
leadership, management and technical skills through effective communication and
collaboration, proper use of team resources, progressive decision- making, personal
accountability and responsibility.
Supervision Received: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Electric Line
Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential
duties:
A. Install and maintain overhead and underground, high and low voltage electrical power
lines, working them energized or de energized, under direct supervision/direction the
Electric Line Supervisor.
B. Operate bucket trucks, digger derricks (line trucks) which are used to pull old utility
poles and set new ones.
C. Assist First Class Electric Line Technician and Electric Lead Line Technician to get the
new poles ready to transfer primary and secondary wires from old pole to the new one.
D. Haul new poles to the job site and haul old poles away.
E. Set guy anchors.
F. Identify different sizes of wire and what connectors are used to connect them together
to complete a circuit.
G. Read blueprints in new developments for installing new underground primary and
secondary wires.
H. Set and build new transformers i.e. doing the grounds up, making elbows up, and
getting the secondary side of transformer ready for new house services.
I. Haul and operate trenchers of various sizes to install primary and secondary
underground wires.
Make primary splices for overhead and underground primary and secondary wires up.
L. Terminate new underground riser poles to energize new underground transformers.
M. Tree trimming around power lines for line maintenance.
N. Work scheduled on-call duties.
O. Install meters.
P. Performs related work as required.
