The ChristianaCare Nurse Residency Program is accredited with distinction as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs. ChristianaCare Nurse Residency Program is recognized by the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) as an Industry-Recognized Apprenticeship Programs (IRAP).

Therefore, we are committed to supporting all registered nurses with under one year of experience through a nurse residency specialty track.
This exciting curriculum integrates:
lecture and simulation education
preceptor-led clinical experiences structured to foster critical thinking, evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, effective communication, quality and safety, and professional development.
This unique 26-week program is a combination of classroom and clinical experiences. Participants will work under the supervision of experienced emergency nurses for the length of the program.
This program has been devised by the nurses in the Emergency Department at Christiana Hospital. This program allows for a smooth transition from GN to the ED staff RN role into ED nursing, for those candidates qualified. The 26-week preceptor led program will be followed by continued residency meetings during months 8, 10, and 12 to further develop as professional nurses and integral members of our caregiver team.
ChristianaCare has 3 Emergency Departments:
ChristianaCare Newark Campus: the only Level 1 Adult Trauma Center between Philadelphia and Baltimore
ChristianaCare Wilmington Campus: a Level 3 Adult Trauma Center
Middletown Emergency Department: freestanding ED
Our Emergency Departments see approximately 195,000 patients annually, servicing an average of 500 patients per day in combined visits from all 3 departments. There are 162 patient rooms, including state-of-the-art trauma resuscitation facilities between the 3 departments.
Upon successful program completion, you will be hired as a staff nurse in one of the 3 Emergency Departments within ChristianaCare. Nurse residents are required to pass State Boards and be licensed as a RN in the State of Delaware (or hold a Multi-State RN in a compact state prior to starting position. Upon hire, a commitment agreement to work at the ChristianaCare will be signed. The two-year agreement requires at least 15 months to be completed within the department of hire from start date as RN prior to transferring to another unit.
Individuals unable to fill this commitment will be charged $10,000.
Graduating from accredited nursing school before November 2022 (BSN Preferred)
Less than 12 months of nursing experience by the start of the program
Eligible for Delaware licensure as a Graduate Nurse/Registered Nurse or Multi-State License from a compact state.
