The Industrial Solutions New Technology Development Group is an interdisciplinary team responsible for executing the next-on innovation pipeline across a diverse platform of high-growth businesses included healthcare, OLEDs, display materials, precision parts and conductive inks. This team works in concert with the Industrial Solutions New Business Development team, R&D, legal, product stewardship and process scale-up to (1) complete early-stage scouting and development for new products and applications that open additional addressable markets, (2) providing support to major product launch initiatives in late stage as needed to solve important and challenging technology issues and (3) building new technology capabilities.
This team is looking for an Organic Chemist to lead technical scouting efforts and development of next-gen materials and products in strategic value creation platforms. This role will lead material and formulation development, synthetic design, patentability and communication to technology and business leaders. This role is located at Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE and will require routine coordination with lab technicians, R&D and process scale-up teams, customer-facing resources and global business and commercial stakeholders.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Partners with marketing and new business development team to identify and assess new research areas for value creation within a business.
+ Explore new products, applications and platforms through patent landscape analysis, fundamental understanding, experiment design, data analysis, and result interpretation
+ Develop next-generation materials / products across the Industrial Solutions portfolio
+ Performs experimental, scientific and technological investigations directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge (i.e., technical scouting and feasibility).
+ Strong knowledge of the isolation and purification of materials by routine and sophisticated organic chemistry lab techniques (including vacuum/fractional distillation), advanced distillation techniques, recrystallization, extraction, filtration, and liquid chromatography.
+ Knowledge of small molecule and polymer analytical techniques and spectroscopic methods (including NMR, FT-IR, GC, GC/MS, LC-MS, DSC, TGA, XRF etc)
+ Prepares documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results, including technical reports, summaries and protocols
+ Supports development of novel strategies to strengthen and support patent filings and protect intellectual property. Helps to define the strategy for a specific technical area
+ Documents research leading to patent disclosure or technical and/or scientific advancement.
+ Technical presentations at company meetings, technical conferences, and customer/partner facilities
+ Promote a strong safety culture required for a safe working environment
ROLE (JOB) SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum requirements for the role (screen-out factors) including education and skills..
+ Ph.D. in Organic or Polymer Chemistry with 5+ years of industry experience
+ Strong work ethic, high level of creativity and productivity
+ Proven track record of synthetic organic chemistry problem-solving skills
+ Excellent knowledge of NMR, GC/MS, LC/MS, FT-IR as well as interpretation of the respective data
+ Effective verbal and written communication on all aspects of program activity, including demonstrated ability to make clear, persuasive, concise, and well-organized oral presentations
+ Highly motivated and self-directed individual with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with employees at all levels in the organization
+ Aptitude for designing experiments and hypothesis driven research
+ Must be able to work well in teams and to work independently with limited supervision
