Waters is establishing a new state of the art lab located at the Science, Technology and Advanced Research Campus of University of Delaware. A team anchored in Delaware will uncover new trends and opportunities in next generation bioprocess solutions and will have access to the latest technology in small-scale as well as large scale bioreactors and analytical instruments. This endeavor will include dynamic collaborations with the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL), Universities, and companies worldwide. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of biologists, data scientists, sensory experts, and bioprocess engineers. Your efforts will have a direct impact on both new product and strategy while communicating directly to the senior VP’s and the CEO.

The meaningful work you will be asked to do:
+ Identify, champion, and develop new scientific ideas whilst advising on existing research and development activities.
+ Responsible to carry out research and develop technology for analytical characterization of manufacturing processes for biologics and novel modalities
+ Drive prototype technology and provide proof of concept experimental evaluations. Create formal networks involving coordination among high profile groups within Waters and significantly influence our Bioprocess strategy.
+ Foster collaborations with world leading academics for cutting edge technology concepts. Understand a deep understanding of customer needs and feed this information to develop next generation scientific instrumentation.
+ Keep up to date with the external patent and literature environment; actively present and publish externally and pursue patents
+ Perform cell culture and practice aseptic techniques for developing and processing research grade cellular products
+ Work with project workstream to develop corresponding delivery schedules and milestones
+ Engage directly with the executive staff at Waters and provide scientific leadership in Bioprocess.
+ Assist in the development of a strategy focused on Bioprocess technologies.
Abilities that will help you to be successful
+ Ph.D. with 5+ years of industry experience in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or a related field
+ Proven record of accomplishments in upstream process and technology development with a strong scientific publication or presentation track record
+ Experience with bioreactor systems, advanced analytics for process monitoring and control and state-of-the-art cell culture processes
+ Proven practical experience using chromatography and sensor-based technologies other related technologies
+ Ability to adapt quickly to new scientific areas and work across teams to deliver complex objectives under tight timelines
+ Excellent organizational, collaborative, team leadership and networking skills.? The ideal candidate should be highly motivated with demonstrated ability to work on research projects.? Demonstrate significant judgement and freedom to act.
+ Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills and significant evidence of building good working relationships with collaborators, including biologists and/or biomedical researchers
+ Travel to our world headquarters in Massachusetts and customer visits are required
