Job Description

Chemours is seeking an Associate Chemist to join our growing Core Services team for the Thermal and Specialized Solutions (TSS) business! This position will report directly to the Global Core Services Manager, TSS at our world-class innovation center, the Chemours Discovery Hub, in Newark, DE.

This position will lead flammability and sealed tube testing of new and existing products to support our Growth, Technical Service, and Operations teams while working closely with the Principal Chemists to support critical lab programs. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, customer-focused problem solver with a passion for innovation and collaboration.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform flammability and sealed tube experiments in the lab and provide support for the development of improved next generation fluorochemicals.
  • Plan and conduct experiments independently, collect necessary data, organize/record the data, share conclusions broadly and continue experiments as needed with minimal guidance from supervision.
  • Interpret and analyze results and provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Collaborate with team members in Core Services, Product Growth, Technical Service, and Operations to set the objectives and priorities for various tests.
  • Provide data to guide research programs and prepare patent applications.
  • Ensure laboratory and analytical measurement systems are in good working condition and make upgrades as needed.

The following is /required/ for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical), Materials Science etc., or equivalent work experience
  • Specific Ability to work with open flames and liquid nitrogen
  • Basic mechanical skills with small hand tools
  • Familiarity with computer-based systems necessary for lab operation, including MS Office tools
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated problem-solving/troubleshooting and data analysis skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The following is /preferred/ for this role:

  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Experience with handling gaseous mixtures
  • Experience working with open flames
