Job Description


DuPont Electronics & Industrial business has an opening for an Associate Investigator, Print Lab Technician to join the Digital Printing Organization. The Digital Printing business is responsible for supplying aqueous inks to the textile & commercial packaging markets. Our R&D organization designs, tests, and qualifies next-generation digital inks for new customers within the industry. The responsibilities of a successful applicant include evaluating the performance of experimental inks in inkjet printers and custom jetting fixtures. The applicant will be responsible for conducting a full body of analytical jetting experiments, documenting observations, and reporting back to the formulation team to help guide their design. The applicant will also have extended capabilities that involve application engineering, troubleshooting existing products at customers’ sites, and supporting our commercial organization through the design and execution of ink jetting experiments. The applicant will work alongside of a team of scientists and will have the opportunity to learn about ink design, formulation, the ink jetting process, and characterizing end use properties of an ink.

Job Description (functional responsibilities):

+ Work full-time in a laboratory setting alongside a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians

+ Operate custom printing and drop visualization fixtures in a laboratory environment

+ Troubleshoot complex laboratory equipment and make small repairs (mechanical or low-voltage electrical)

+ Design printing experiments which address customer requests and test hypotheses of our scientists

+ Evaluate print quality through visual inspection & various characterization techniques

+ Conduct end use property measurements on analytical equipment

+ Summarize your work by documenting results, communicating observations and creating a job report

+ Consult with our formulation scientists to help guide their design of modified inks

+ Create test targets using Adobe Suite

+ Update equipment/modify usage to meet experimental needs

+ Document equipment procedures and SOPs

+ Perform data analysis to assess equipment performance

+ Identify areas for improvement in existing procedures

+ Balance multiple projects/competing priorities


Knowledge & experience:

+ Preferred degree in BS Degree in Physics, Electrical, Electro Mechanical, Instrumentation Engineering, or related field

+ Have the right to work in the U.S. without restriction

+ Comfortable working in a laboratory setting with analytical, printing and jetting equipment

+ Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office programs

+ Motivated self-starter with good organizational skills and attention to detail

+ Works effectively in a team environment interacting with other scientists

+ Commitment to safety

+ Preferred experience with inkjet printers

+ Preferred experience with an industrial printer for textile or commercial packaging

+ Preferred experience with JetXpert or similar drop watching systems

+ Preferred proficiency in generating analytical images in Adobe Photoshop

+ Preferred experience in a printing and/or measuring quality of printed products

+ Preferred experience writing computer code (C and C++), scripts, and/or VBA macros

+ Preferred experience with data analysis and experimental design
