The Division of Medical Physics within The Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute's (HFGCCRI) Department of Radiation Oncology is searching for a Chief Clinical Physicist. The clinical leader willlead a team of approximately 20 highly trained medical physicists and Dosimetrists to provide high quality medical physics service to patients requiring radiation therapy. In addition, they will direct all clinical physics activity in the Radiation Oncology Department; and assures compliance with existing state, federal, NRC, ASTRO and JCAHO regulations pertaining to the use of radiation within the department. The Chief will also, have responsibility for developing departmental policy and a quality assurance program on clinical physics services.
PhD preferred, M.S. accepted in Medical Physics or related field. Five (5) years of experience working as a clinical physicist in a large community hospital. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Board Certification by the American Board of Radiology and Therapeutic Radiological Physics, Diagnostic Radiological Physics, and Medical Nuclear Physics is preferred, with a minimum of board certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics and board eligibility in other areas.

In this role you will:
Conduct regular and periodic staff meetings for areas of accountability to discuss problems, procedures and new policies and is accountable for the implementation of polices/ procedures.
Supervise clinical physicists in daily tasks. Provides direct oversight and provides strong leadership while mentoring and developing team members. Manages and coordinates coaching and disciplinary actions.
Ensure medical physics systems, processes, and people maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of areas of accountability. Develop and maintain performance dashboards for physics and dosimetry workflows. Analyzes, forecasts, and presents key metrics for evaluation.
Support Chief of Radiation Oncology in development of business plans for related radiation oncology growth strategies.
Work closely with physician champions, sponsors, stakeholders, and frontline staff to create strategy and timeline for projects, new technologies and programs, focusing on clinical process improvements or regulatory requirements.
Supervise dosimetry and mold room technicians, assigning work tasks and prioritizing and scheduling jobs.
Review and critique all external beam treatment plans, the use of beam modifiers and immobilization techniques for patients receiving photon and electron radiation therapy.
Check patient charts, performs therapy machine calibration.
Develop instrumentation, assist in data acquisition and analysis, and other activities related to clinical physics research projects.
Supervise the maintenance of an inventory log of all radiation sources used in brachytherapy. Performs periodic wipe testing of sources. Supervise the maintenance of all dosimetry systems to include ionization chambers, (TLD) dosimeters, and film devices.
Serve as member of Radiation Safety Committee.
Provide lectures to house staff, technical, and nursing for personnel.
Maintain a liaison with the Radiation Safety Officer of the Medical Center.
Calibrate and monitor in a timely manner performance of linear accelerators, orthovoltage unit, radiotherapy simulator. Oversee/perform repair and maintenance of linear accelerators, orthovoltage unit, radiotherapy simulator, and treatment planning computer systems.
Evaluate radiation therapy purchases to devise and implement new treatment methods and devices.
Manage resources within the established budget.
