ChristianaCare is looking for a Registered Dietitian for our School-Based Health Centers.
School-Based Health Centers were established especially for students in order to help make the best quality health care available in our community more accessible to them. Because they are located right in school, School-Based Health Centers help students overcome many obstacles to receiving good health care - obstacles such as lack of transportation, inconvenient appointment times, or worries about cost and confidentially. School-Based Health Centers provide comprehensive medical and mental health care, treatment and health education to promote a healthy lifestyle. Each health center is operated by a partnership that includes ChristianaCare Health System, school districts and the Delaware Division of Public Health, Department of Health and Social Services
The Registered Dietitian serves as an integral member of the School Based Health Center team by providing in-depth assessments, care plans, counseling, and follow-up to ensure that appropriate nutritional services are provided. The Registered Dietitian must be willing to travel to Hodgson Vo-Tech High School, Concord High School, Delcastle Vo-Tech High School, and Cab Calloway School of the Arts.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in the development and evaluation of nutrition education materials appropriate for adolescents.
Provides nutrition education for students, families, and school staff.
Demonstrates skill and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the adolescent population.
Conducts outreach to provide services and presents education in a classroom setting.
Meets with students to review current nutrition plan, educate individuals and develop plan of care, conduct follow-up visits and monitor progress.
Participates as an integral part of the healthcare team by making appropriate referrals and by coordinating care of the student with the interdisciplinary team.
Obtains and interprets information for the purpose of identifying student needs and developing an appropriate care plan focused on the nutritional needs of the student.
Counsels students with identified nutritional needs, on an individual basis, who are self-referred or referred by parents, school staff, School Based Heath Center staff or outside providers.
Maintains medical records according to HIPPA guidelines and third-party billing guidelines.
Assists with the development of policies, procedures, and programs for the School Based Health Center.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition, Registered Dietitian (R.D.) or RD eligible.
Minimum one-year experience as a clinical dietitian.
Minimum one-year work experience with adolescents as a clinical dietitian preferred.

Ability to facilitate management of patients in a clinical setting.
Knowledge and clinical skills in dietetic management of adolescents.
Knowledge of public health theories in the field of nutrition.
Knowledge of strategies used to motivate adolescent behavioral change.
Skill in inter-personal relations.
Ability to design and implement creative and non-traditional programs that will assist with motivation.
