Job Description

Chemours is seeking a Director of Capital Engineering to join our growing Advanced Performance Materials (APM) team! This position will report directly to the VP, APM, Operations at our Wilmington, Delaware location.

As we continue with the APM and TSS growth journeys, it is critical we deploy our capital effectively to run our plants reliably with high EHS standard, release additional capacity, and reduce production cost while maximizing return on invested capital.

Under our Corporate Values of Collective Entrepreneurship and Refreshing Simplicity, this role streamlines our current business capital projects (engineering) management and investment required for long-term capacity planning and drives step change in capital productivity.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop both short- and long-term capital project plan for all capital needs including Run & Maintain, CRC and Growth Projects in support of APM and TSS strategy
  • Manage planning and execution of minor (<$500K) and small (<$10M) capital projects portfolio for APM and TSS businesses
  • Work with TSS and APM business and operations leaders to identify and vet both short- and long-term capital project needs
  • Set clear governance structure (clear project definition & objectives, scope, cost & schedule estimate, project metrics at each stage of the project, accountability for delivering project objectives, contracting strategy, communication & reporting) for minor and small capital projects
  • Ensure all minor and small capital project for APM and TSS businesses are executed cost effectively and on schedule
  • Build a capable and effective APM and TSS capital projects organization that drives creative capital solutions, with an owners’ mindset for capital frugality to meet the business needs.
  • Collaborate with Operations, M&R and Technical organizations to develop creative solutions that will eliminate the need or minimize the cost for capital investment
  • Develop cost effective capital projects design and execution strategy is in place for all APM and TSS manufacturing sites
  • Review and revise the current capital project process to improve efficiency and effectiveness of our capital projects
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Engineering to ensure an effective Large (>$10M) Projects governance structure is in place and the projects are executed effectively.
  • Work with Sourcing and Enterprise Capital to ensure the right procurement strategy is in place for all minor and small capital projects
  • Serve as a gate keeper for all capital projects to ensure project scopes are scrutinized for minimum essential and control scope creep

The following is required for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or in other related fields.
  • More than 10 years’ experience working with operations and business leadership to develop both short-and-long term capital investment needs.

  • Org Design Diagnostics Completed in the first 60 days
  • Org design implemented within first 6 months
  • Cost – Actual Capital Project Spend Vs Plan

o E&HO as % of Total Capital

o % of Design Rework

  • Schedule -Schedule Completion Vs Plan
  • Quality – % of project that met business objectives
  • Annual Run and Maintain Capital as % of ERV
  • E&HO as % of Total Capital
