The Role: The Sr. Condition Assessment Engineer will serve as a technical advisor within the organization and externally to clients. The successful candidate will support Business Development and Project Delivery in a geographic area, guiding scope development, pipeline operations and engineering best practice decision-making. The Sr. Condition Assessment Engineer will work with engineering services’ senior management on developing SOPs, mentoring junior staff, and heightening the perception of Xylem’s engineering services in the water industry through quality deliverables and market presence.


Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

+ Mentors and develop condition assessment engineers on pipeline operation and condition assessment engineering best practice, pipeline forensics and structural assessments, quality report writing and delivery

+ Ensures that deliverables are in alignment with the utility’s needs and the level of service and quality consistent with Xylem’s Assessment Services standards

+ Maintains committee memberships and generates white papers and technical documents to share with the industry at local and national water conferences

+ Partners with Business Development to support client proposal development and programs to ensure they have realistic and achievable scopes of work, have been creative in looking at all technologies/solutions available to be cost effective (i.e. may propose visual inspection versus use of technology)

+ Analyzes multiple data points to create technical client reports; inclusive of conclusions and recommendations that will help clients turn an inspection or series of inspections into meaningful pipeline management plans

+ Completes a variety of pipeline calculations, including but not limited to pipe loading, design checks and hydraulics/surge analysis

+ Leads and trains others in the completion of field based forensic evaluations

+ Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering related discipline with 10 or more years of experience primarily in an engineering consulting background

+ Required to maintain professional engineering license in multiple states or provinces, depending on location

+ Technical knowledge of pressure pipe inspection technologies, including knowledge of when to use each of the technologies and the limitations of each is desired

+ Highest standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized. Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills

+ Work well within a team environment

+ Demonstrated experience in meeting expectations of internal and external customers

+ Ability to work independently

+ Effective time management and problem-solving abilities

+ Able to travel approximately 20% of time in the U.S., possibly extended at times for field investigations and site visits

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Master’s Degree in Engineering or Management

+ Certifications related to corrosion engineering, structural engineering, or failure mechanics

+ Some field experience or construction background

+ Knowledge or experience in hydraulics
