Process Development Engineer – Presssure Research Laboratory
DuPont ™ Kalrez® and Vespel® (KV) parts solve our customer’s toughest sealing, wear and friction challenges through high performance, science-based solutions. Transportation and Advanced Polymers is looking for a process development engineer that will provide support for Kalrez® R&D operations at the Experimental Station, Pressure Research Laboratory. The main responsibilities for this position are to evaluate new chemical synthesis scale-up for safety and feasibility to support all Kalrez® product lines, support Kalrez® testing to address customer concerns, and support Kalrez® manufacturing needs. This position will work closely with application engineers, manufacturing engineers and R&D scientists.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
+ Evaluate safety parameters for existing facilities and new experimentation conducted at the Pressure Research Lab. Develop safe operating procedures and lead the hazard review process for new experiments / setups and maintain/update current records as needed
+ Train technicians on new equipment set ups and processes
+ Lead in the technology, design, and operation of scale-up experiments including chemical compatibility, reaction modeling and pressure calculations. Develop process setups for varying modes of experimentation including the use of glassware, and various pressure vessels
+ Provide engineering and analytical instrumentation support to carry laboratory scale technologies through pilot scale processes
+ Troubleshoot equipment / process issues and work with researchers to execute experiments
+ Maintain general work area and air registration permits for all barricades and chemical fume hoods
As the engineer supporting all E&I R&D operations, you may be tasked with working on additional projects and product lines, and solving problems as they come up.
Job Qualifications:
+ B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering with 3+ years of process engineering experience
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently
+ Strong troubleshooting and data analysis skills
+ Training and experience with Process Safety Management
+ Must have strong communication and teamwork skills
+ Ability to model chemical reactions and pressure using Aspen Plus or other comparable software
Additional Qualifications (Preferred):
+ Experience with high pressure, high hazard operations
+ TFE and HF experience
+ Experience calculating deflagration rates
+ General wet chemistry knowledge
