Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking a motivated and eager-to-learn Entry-Level Planner in our Emergency Management and Community Resilience program to work remotely and report to our Parsippany, NJ office. The planner will be responsible for collecting, analyzing and synthesizing data related to hazard mitigation/emergency management and community resilience (e.g., historic events and losses). The planner will also be responsible for tracking grant management data including invoices and budgets in MS Excel and through this experience, gain an understanding of hazard mitigation planning and project implementation. The planner will support a wide variety of grant development and administration, planning, and training activities throughout the nation.

Your Role:

The selected candidate will work on grant development and management under a variety of FEMA programs including Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant programs, additionally the candidate will contribute to the development of a variety of community and regional resilience planning work including but not limited to hazard mitigation plans.

This is a remote-working position and candidate must be able to work independently and effectively coordinate projects at the ground level on a daily basis on behalf of the project manager.

Job responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
  • Collecting and analyzing and synthesizing data related to financial expenditures and procurement compliance, hazards and vulnerabilities, community development, resilience, housing, environmental and natural resources, demographics, infrastructure and land use planning.
  • Technical writing for communications with federal and state entities on matters relating to the development of grant scopes, sections of reports, planning documents and other related documents.
  • Developing strategic actions and implementation steps.
  • Provide support for a wide-array of GIS data analysis including data management and cartography.
  • Assisting and participating in public speaking engagements.
  • Working with a wide variety of stakeholders like elected officials, public policy makers, administrative staff, planning commissions members and authority members.
  • Providing basic client management and project performance tasks including adhering to project scopes and timelines under the guidance of the project manager.
  • Working collaboratively with and under the supervision of a senior planner/scientist or project manager
  • Liaise with professionals on technical aspects of project and program development
  • Assisting in the preparation of various plans including hazard mitigation and community redevelopment plans including research and analysis of socio-economic, demographic, environmental, historical hazard data, etc.
  • Interpreting laws, regulations, policies and guidance and apply understanding to projects
  • Maintaining spreadsheets and trackers regarding budgets and meeting attendance
  • Providing administrative support as needed
