Job Description
Job Summary: Responsible for the overall implementation of a City-wide Urban Forestry
Program including tree planting, maintenance, related landscaped areas, contract
administration, enforcement of tree related policies, and representation of City at public
meetings.
The Arborist/Urban Forestry Coordinator shall be committed to the mission, vision and

individual initiative and responsive service. The Arborist/Urban Forestry Coordinator shall
demonstrate leadership, management and technical skills through effective communication
and collaboration, proper use of team resources, progressive decision-making, personal
accountability and responsibility.
Supervision Received: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks and
Recreation Director.
Essential Job Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential
duties:
A. Supervises, inspects and manages the City’s contracts for tree pruning, tree removals,
contractual providers when performing tree/landscaping maintenance.
B. Inspect overhead power lines for proper vegetation clearance.
C. Assist in storm and emergency situations and other miscellaneous line clearance
projects.
D. Inspect and assess trees for hazards and/or danger potential.
E. Conduct tree planting, tree pruning recommendations, assist with tree watering, seek
opportunities to enhance the City’s tree planting program via grants, and coordinate
community tree planting events.
F. Solicit proposals and monitor work for vegetation management for all City properties.
G. Respond to tree maintenance issues in commercial zones, including maintenance of
grates and tree wells.
H. Check building permits, blueprints, and other documents for conformance tocodes.
I. Coordinate with City staff to complete land development landscape review, complete
construction inspections as directed, and support other related City Charter or Code compliance needs.
J. Conduct tree inspections and prepare inspections reports.
K. Maintain an accurate tree inventory database, provide accurate data to committees,
commissions, and management. Monitor and assess tree inventory for trees that are at
risk.
L. Oversee tree-related sidewalk repairs, including correspondence with property owners,
tree root shaving or sidewalk re-alignments as necessary, and coordination with other
staff.
M. Provides community outreach including organizing workshops and volunteer led events.
N. Performs related work as required by the Parks and Recreation Director.
Essential Functions, Qualifications, & Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) for Employment:
An employee in this class must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities upon
application:
Knowledge
• ANSI 300 practices and procedures.
• Essential elements of a comprehensive urban forestry program, state, and local
government.
• Current practices and procedures of maintaining an urban forest including tree
planting, species selection, maintenance, and tree pruning.
• Tree protection measures for construction sites and other heavily traversed public
areas.
Skills
• Communication - Oral and written communication.
• Use and operation of heavy equipment, hand power tools, including maintenance
practices of such equipment and tools.
Abilities
• Read landscape plans, maps, utility prints, and familiarity with tree protection
measures on construction sites.
• Development of the urban forestry program budget.
• Safely lift and frequently move up to 60 pounds.
• Stand/walk for long periods of time, including the ability to navigate uneven surfaces
to perform assigned tasks in the field.
• Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme
temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Work effectively in precarious positions at considerable heights above the ground.
