This position can sit in any of our U.S. offices and this position offers a hybrid remote work opportunity.

The Director of Research Services is responsible for the creation and implementation of research and resource solutions that provide actionable insights for DLA Piper lawyers, business professionals, and clients. One will lead, direct, and manage firm-wide research and resources teams, establish short and long-range strategies, goals, and objectives, and ensure an inclusive and collaborative work environment.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Library Science (MLIS, MLS, MIS)

• 10 years experience in research and information services with progressive experience in managing and mentoring others, particularly in the legal industry

• In-depth knowledge of research and reference management and resources trends, dynamics, and growth drivers, including resource needs assessments

• Thorough knowledge of various technology and resource platforms for research and resources services, including legal and non-legal databases and integrated library systems

• Experience in developing and managing budgets, analyzing costs, and identifying appropriate ways to maximize resource usage and mitigate costs

• Strong focus on client service

• Experience with vendor management and contract negotiation

• Experience in the development of training protocols for research and resources platforms

Preferred Requirements:

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent

What will your day look like?

As a Director of Research Services, you will oversee and manage the firm-wide team of business professionals, including performance management, best practice benchmarks and protocols, workload statistical analysis, and ongoing continuing education opportunities to enhance the team’s professional development.

You will mentor and coach team members to provide appropriate opportunities for continued professional development. You will conduct annual performance reviews and provide overall leadership and direction to the team. In conjunction with our Chief Knowledge Officer, you will help develop capital and expense budgets for the department and practice groups. You will also work with the resources team to manage all expenditures to remain within budget.

Additionally, you will direct research and resources for collection development. You will also review, evaluate and recommend new research resources for firm implementation.
