WASTEWATER OPERATOR I - BIOSOLIDS
DUTIES AND FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The employee in this class performs routine and non-routine inspections of wastewater
facilities to verify proper operation, checks and changes controls in accordance with
established procedures. Employee must use reasonable care, judgment, and application
of the knowledge in the performance of their duties. This is considered an essential
position and may be subject to emergency call-in and extended or varying shifts.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Participates in the work of operating and maintaining wastewater collection and treatment
facilities; starts, stops, sets operation sequence, and speed of wastewater pumps, air
compressors and blowers, chemical mixing and feeding equipment and other machinery;
performs work at various County owned facilities; records data, reads meters, and
gauges; makes minor adjustments and repairs, performs routine lubrication work; collects
samples, performs tests; paints; cleans pumps, and other equipment; performs related
work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Moderate knowledge of wastewater operations, including wastewater collection and
treatment facilities; ability to operate a Belt Filter Press; knowledge of biosolids dryer
operations/processes; knowledge of the care and maintenance of machinery and
equipment; knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with wastewater facilities;
ability to collect samples and perform simple tests; ability to handle hazardous and
combustible materials safely; ability to understand and follow written and oral
instructions; ability to obtain and maintain required licenses or certifications.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of education and
experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; possession of a
Wastewater Operator Level I license or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of
employment is required; must work a rotating 12-hour shift, seven (7) days a week, as
assigned; must be available on-call 24 hours for emergency assignments; good verbal and
written communication skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word,
Excel).

DUTIES AND FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Employee in this class performs routine and non-routine inspections of wastewater facilities to verify proper operation in accordance with established procedures requiring significant training and judgment. Incumbent works under general supervision. This is considered an essential position and may be subject to emergency call-in and extended or varying shifts.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Participates in the work of operating and maintaining wastewater collection and treatment facilities; starts, stops, sets operation sequence, and speed of wastewater pumps, air compressors, blowers, chemical mixing and feeding equipment and additional related machinery; works with general public and outside contractors; performs work at various County owned facilities; records data, reads meters, and gauges; makes adjustments and repairs, performs routine lubrication work; collects samples, performs analyses; paints; cleans pumps, and other related equipment; performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Significant knowledge wastewater operations, including wastewater collection and treatment; knowledge of the care and maintenance of machinery and equipment; ability to operate a Belt Filter Press; knowledge of biosolids dryer operations/processes; ability to perform wastewater tests and to adjust operating procedures within prescribed allowances; ability to participate in the operation and maintenance of the facilities; ability to train assigned personnel; ability to understand flow diagrams, hydraulic profiles, blueprints and operating manuals; ability to handle hazardous and combustible materials safely; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to obtain and maintain required licenses and/or certifications.
