Job Description

The Supported Living Direct Support Professional (DSP) promotes self-direction and problem-solving related to performing activities of daily living (ADLS) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLS) required for the participate to live independently. The Supported Living DSP helps the participant engage in community-based activities of the participant’s choosing and within the participant’s personal resources. This position provides community support services in accordance with Benedictine and DDA standards. 

Need more details?  Here are the primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain competent, trusting, and supportive relationships with adult participants receiving services as well as with family, resource coordinators and other stakeholders.
  • Assist participants in the ADLs and IADLs necessary to enable them to live as independently as possible in their own homes or rental units.
  • Assist with the design, implementation, and evidence of supports (person-centered planning) of program to develop and maintain independent living skills while providing natural supports when necessary. Program area examples: home management skills, money management, nutrition and meal preparation, recreation and leisure activities, life skills, emergency preparedness, community involvement, etc.
  • Assist participants with finding an apartment or home, roommates, and shared supports based on the participant's preferences and choices. 
  • Provide transportation to and from a variety of community worksites, leisure activities, holiday events and community outings. Maintain own vehicle for business use. Transport participants and provide required documentation of insurance.
  • Must have good time-management skills and be willing to schedule service hours based on client's needs. Must be willing to adjust schedule as needed for Supported Living changes.
  • Must use professional language with objective terminology to complete required written documentation of Supported Living services. Reports must be thorough, relevant, timely, and submitted to appropriate funding source and manager.
  • Assist in the management, documentation, and organization of behavior plan information/data.
  • Assist adult participants in achieving independent living through the development of supports that enhance the individual's opportunity for community participation and to exercise choice and control over the individual's own life.

  • Must have a high school diploma/GED.
  • Must have effective and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years old.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug scree; must pass pre-employment screenings and criminal background checks though CJIS as stated by Family Law Article 5.561.
  • Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record. Must be able to use personal vehicle in the execution of job duties and provide required insurance documentation of personal vehicle.
  • Must pass all initial and ongoing position-mandated trainings.
  • Must have Med Tech certification (or eligibility to be Med Tec certified).
  • Familiarity with supporting adults with developmental disabilities, and managing associated behaviors is preferred.
