Our Discovery Chemistry group is looking for an experienced Chemist. The Research Scientist develops and optimizes chemical reactions for the synthesis of novel compounds to support SAR or meet nomination criteria.

Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)

Under the guidance of a mentor, design/conduct organic chemistry experiments to develop and optimize the synthesis of novel compounds.

Scale-up compounds as necessary for SAR studies and/or ADME studies.

Understand the structure activity relationships of assigned programs.

Utilize literature searching tools to design experiments (e.g. SciFinder, RS3, etc.) to incorporate concepts into context of experimental work.

Independently utilize a variety of analytical and preparative instruments to characterize reactions and products using standard chromatographic techniques (e.g. HPLC, GC, TLC, LC-MS, NMR, UV, etc.) with minimal direction from mentor.

Maintain an up-to-date electronic notebook.

Present research results clearly to the department and other disciplines.

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)

Bachelor's Degree in Organic Chemistry with 0-3 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical or BioTech Industry or Masters of Science Degree in Organic Chemistry with 0-5 years f experience in the Pharmaceutical or BioTech Industry

Understanding of synthetic organic chemistry concepts with high lab productivity.

Proficient in work related computer software (e.g. ChemDraw, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel, etc.).

Strong communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.

Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills.
