Job Summary (Primary function)

The Executive Director, IAI Pharmacology is primarily responsible for the scientific and strategic leadership of Incyte's growing Inflammation & Autoimmunity (IAI) drug discovery portfolio. Additionally, the role requires hands-on direction, guidance and oversight of all aspects of preclinical drug discovery activities within the research team. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work closely with the immuno-oncology teams and is expected to develop and sustain productive working relationships across the enterprise. A critical aspect of the role is to leverage effectively internal and external (academia, CRO) pharmacology capabilities to enable regulatory filings (IND, NDA etc.) and to foster a collaborative research environment with internal functions including the clinical development team. The successful candidate will be an outstanding scientist with expertise in all aspects of molecular and cellular immunology together with experience in contemporary drug discovery obtained in a biotech or pharma environment. A demonstrated record of success in target identification, validation and prosecution of drug discovery campaigns is strongly preferred.

Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)

 

Work closely with the CSO, define, implement and execute a scientifically strong, competitive and compelling research strategy for the IAI discovery team

 

Ensure effective collaboration with other functions in the discovery and clinical development departments.

 

Provide hands-on leadership and critical oversight of all preclinical laboratory activities evaluating novel investigational agents.

 

Coordinate the activities of an extensive and global network of CRO partners and academic collaborators to ensure close alignment with Incyte program objectives

 

Effectively lead and enable the career development all IAI research personnel

 

Act as the scientific lead for in-licensing and business development activities, key external expert (KEE) interactions, medical affairs and commercial functions

 

Manage departmental budget(s) and act as the primary cost center owner.

 

As needed, provide investor interaction content including drafting Q&As and materials for face-to-face meetings etc.

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)

 

Ph.D. in Immunology or a related field with deep experience in molecular/cell biology and in vivo immune pharmacology.

 

10+ years post-doctoral experience of drug discovery in biotech / pharmaceutical industry.

 

Post-doctoral experience in a relevant field.

 

Demonstrated record of accomplishment of applying scientific knowledge to design and execute a successful research strategy.

 

Supervisory and research team leadership experience.

 

Knowledge of dermatological diseases advantageous.

 

Expertise in flow cytometry, transcriptomic and proteomic analysis essential.

 

Excellent communication skills.

 

Extensive evidence of scientific excellence via a peer-reviewed publication record.
