Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced scientific leader to join our Applied Technology Division at Incyte Research Institute to drive early drug discovery. The ideal candidate should have hands-on laboratory research experience in one or more of the following, biochemistry, biophysics, enzymology or chemical biology. The candidate should have deep interest in applying both theoretical and practical aspects of biochemistry and/or enzymology in drug discovery. In addition to scientific qualifications, candidates with a growth mindset, a can-do attitude, team-working behaviors, and effective communication skills, will succeed and excel in this role.

Key Job responsibilities


Design, develop and execute biochemical and biophysical assays to drive hit identification, hit qualification and lead optimization


Provide molecular mechanism insight and leadership to discovery teams


Collaborate effectively with both internal and external partners to progress projects towards milestones, including but not limited to, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, DMPK and biologics groups


Prepare and write technical reports to support drug candidate nomination, regulatory submission, as well as internal and external presentation and publication


Contribute to lead discovery and lead-optimization and compound progress strategies for new targets


Seek, evaluate and implement new technologies and capabilities to increase speed and quality of early drug discovery


Lead drug discovery and capability projects, and qualified candidate will manage direct reports

Core qualifications


PhD in biochemistry/biophysics/enzymology/chemical biology, or equivalent, with 2-3 years of independent post-doctoral research, and 5+ years of industrial drug discovery experience


Hands-on experience and fundamental understanding of the working theories of biochemical and biophysical assays, including labelled and label-free technologies. Working knowledge with mass spectrometry based methods is a plus


Critical understanding of protein/enzyme working principles, including enzyme kinetics (steady state and pre-steady state), enzyme catalytic mechanism, and ligand-induced conformational and population dynamics, and ability to reduce data into mechanistic models and hypothesis to drive lead molecule prioritization and optimization


Ability to work in a matrix team and deliver goals with both speed and quality


Experience with data analysis software, such as Prism, XL fit, Genedata. Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Spotfire is a plus


Industry discovery project leadership experience is a plus


Experience of managing direct reports is a plus
