Job Description

ChristianaCare is searching for Government Affairs Specialist to join the Office of Health Equity and Government Affairs Team. This position will monitor proposed legislative and regulatory changes at State level (primary focus on Maryland, with additional state focus as advised) and assist the Manager of State Government Affairs and Policy in tracking proposed changes and communicating with internal and external partners to advise and align internal policy and strategic decisions. This is a predominately remote position with some occasional on-site and travel needs.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

 

Assist the Manager of State Government Affairs and Policy in coordinating engagement initiatives with external lobbyists and federal policy advocacy organizations. Assist in preparing talking points and written briefing materials for senior leadership in advance of non-public meetings with government officials, and public meetings in which senior leadership is representing ChristianaCare.

 

Develop and manage relationships across a broad spectrum of partners in the health care, business, government (primarily Maryland legislative and regulatory agency levels), and non-profit sectors.

 

Assist the Manager of State Government Affairs and Policy with monitoring state legislation and regulatory developments, and in preparing correspondence with Maryland elected and agency officials and regulatory agencies.

 

Prepare and present verbal and written status updates on legislative, regulatory and policy developments to internal stakeholders, including assisting the Manager of State Government Affairs & Policy with drafting quarterly written reports to the Board of Directors and preparing updates for internal and external partners and internal working groups.

 

Assist in coordinating with the Patient Relations team in routing and responding to constituent inquiries from government officials. Serve as a liaison to the External Affairs team regarding event planning and media matters that require engagement with state and local government officials.

 

Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; report to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Perform other related duties as required.

 

Education and experience requirements:

BA required, with public policy background or demonstrated interest. Previous experience working in Maryland policy or Maryland State government strongly preferred.

Minimum two years of work experience in post-college full-time employment setting required.
