Risk Decision Technologies oversees Credit risk, Fraud risk, consumer lending products, new and refreshed co-brand products, and the features that make premium Amex card products. These business-critical, growing, and highly visible workstreams are responsible for a large portion of the revenue American Express generates.
This role is particularly interesting in that it will oversee the development of a new lending and fulfilment platform that is location agnostic (global), works for on-card and off-card loans, and spans across consumer and commercial. We will build a true platform that will encapsulate business logic and inspire downstream teams to build fully generic APIs for maximum re-use. The successful leader will be expected to help structure the team optimally, determine the roles and responsibilities and working model, work to advance the modernization efforts in partnership with multiple downstream teams such as Accounts Receivable, Global Onboarding Orchestration, and Servicing, and lead the application and product roadmaps. The Director will be expected to form a strong partnership within the team, and with the Product Owner, plus own performance management responsibilities for engineering team members.

+ Build a new lending platform in collaboration with multiple other teams across the enterprise

+ Lead software development teams, acting as an escalation point and removing impediments to achieve goals and objectives
+ Engage in hands-on design and ensure alignment of strategy, architecture, tools/methods with software engineers and architects to execute product roadmaps
+ Collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders within business and technology teams to drive change required to execute product roadmaps
+ Enable integrated teams to deliver technology solutions in support of key product initiatives
+ Collaborate within and across business units to prioritize, plan, and execute the development schedule for major product releases
+ 5 years of experience managing agile software engineering teams designing and building software products in a fast paced, complex and dynamic product development environment
+ 10 years of extensive hands-on experience building and managing the development of complex, large scale enterprise applications and products that require a deep understanding of application logic and dependencies
+ Proven experience attracting, hiring retaining and leading top engineering talent and high-performance product engineering teams (I.e. FTEs, not contractors).
+ Prior experience building out platforms or capabilities in a product development
+ Knowledge of CI/CD, system testing, test automation. Experience in Infrastructure, application monitoring, platform stabilization and Investment performance a plus
+ Proven ability to coordinate across technology, business and enterprise capability teams
+ Requires advanced knowledge and understanding of architecture, applications systems design and integration with a detailed understanding of applicable programming methodologies.
+ Must have a thorough understanding of scalable, secure and robust ntier architectures for achieving end-to-end performance, scalability, availability, reliability, usability, configurability, integration and security.
+ Strong knowledge of Java, Vert.x, Kafka, Apigee, Relational DB, NoSql and Architecture strategies such as microservices, components, tools, concepts, best practices, standards and systems of record is strongly desired.
+ Bigdata knowledge is a plus
+ Must have a passion for Technology, combined with solid conceptual understanding and hands-on programming experience with Node JS and Web Services Technologies
+ Should be hands on and have the ability to understand the code and provide feedback to the team
+ Strong technical foundation; able to engage the team on architecture and design, and get under the hood of complex architectures, systems, and interface design.
+ Partner with peers in technologies to identify opportunities for code sharing, common services, joint development, etc
+ Keep up with the latest industry research and emerging technologies to ensure we are appropriately leveraging new techniques and capabilities.
+ Flawless interpersonal skills and ability to partner with executive leadership to push Technical solutions forward.
+ Proven track record of influence leadership and building high performance self-managing teams.

+ Experience in DevOps Infrastructure including Containerization and Orchestration, Platform Infrastructure Strategy, Code Promotion
+ Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred
