The Department of Biological Sciences (www.bio.udel.edu) at the University of Delaware (UD) invites applications for a continuing track (CT) assistant professor-level position in Biology, starting August 16, 2022. This position offers a strong, supportive setting for a teaching intensive role in the environment of an active research Department, with strengths in the molecular and cellular mechanisms of human diseases, developmental disorders and microbiology. The successful candidate will have expertise in teaching introductory to intermediate level biology classes to biology majors and non-majors, including core concepts in molecular and cellular biology, biological statistics, developmental biology, neurobiology, and/or microbiology. QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Candidates must have a doctoral or equivalent degree in biology or a related field, prior to appointment, and a demonstration of teaching interest and experience. The successful candidate will have expertise in teaching introductory to intermediate biology classes to biology majors and non-majors, including core concepts in molecular and cellular biology, biological statistics, developmental biology, neurobiology, and/or microbiology. Experience in teaching some or more of these concepts to upper-level students is preferred. Postdoctoral experience with significant publications in research or education is desirable but not necessary. Demonstrable commitment to mentoring and promoting a diverse student population is highly desirable.

Primary responsibilities of this teaching-intensive position include teaching introductory to intermediate level courses, development of curriculum, coordination of lectures with associated laboratory sections, and administrative tasks. Typical workload over Fall and Spring is teaching several course sections. Faculty are also expected to contribute to departmental committees that support department functions and academic programs, and to participate in contributions to departmental teaching and research workshops, retreats, seminars, etc. The position may additionally involve College and University service, discipline based education research and advisement responsibilities. The successful candidate is primarily expected to excel at teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse in regards to race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation.
