Entity and activity description


Air Liquide R&D centers, hosting a wide range of competencies, support the Group in achieving the highest level of excellence in the technologies it provides to its customers. The Delaware Innovation Campus (ICD) in Newark, DE provides innovation and technical support to Air Liquide's businesses and markets in the Americas and worldwide.

Our Delaware Innovation Campus, inaugurated in 2007, leads research and technology initiatives in 8 scientific and engineering disciplines. With researchers from 21 different countries, the Campus had the distinction of being named to the 2015 Philly Top Workplaces by the Philadelphia Inquirer and and cited in 2016 by the Delaware Business Times as one of "13 Cool Companies in Delaware." In 2017 we celebrated our 10th anniversary in Delaware and over 3,600 days without a recordable accident! In 2018 we celebrated 10 years of accident-free operations.

Job Responsibilities


This research team is focused on energy transition and climate change, developing technologies for energy efficiency (including oxygen enriched combustion and heat capture and transfer), carbon capture and storage and use of alternate fuels such as hydrogen.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reports to the Innovation Campus Delaware manager, the VP R&D Americas

Serves as a safety role model; promotes a high level of safety awareness and environmentally friendly behavior from the group

Maintains and continuously improves the compliance of his / her group to safety, environmental and quality standards

Works with the VP R&D, Program Directors, and Scientific Directors to establish and execute a strategic portfolio of projects for his group activities

Leads his/her team to deliver the Projects and Work Packages, as proposed by the Program Directors and Scientific Directors, and as decided by the R&D management

Establishes and manages his/her group budget (Target OI) with the support of the Ops Controller; applies for grants for financed projects, applies for capital investments, delivers results by ensuring the best use of all his / her group resources

Together with the R&D VP and Program Directors, establishes measurable objectives for his/her organization and for the area of responsibility, and ensures that objectives are achieved

Develops his/her team members' competencies and technical expertise along the corporate R&D Technical Career competency model

Attracts, retains and develops researchers with the support of the HR manager team and VP R&D. Develops and manages academic collaborations with local and / or world class institutions and universities under the guidelines of the Global Lab Director

Build networking relationships with affiliates in the zone

Supports Air Liquide affiliates in the Zone through Cluster Projects and Support to Operations

Manages the flextime innovation program in his / her group

Qualifications & Competencies



Master degree with ~10 + yrs experience or PhD 5 + yrs of relevant exp. in Hydrogen, or Combustion, or Process Engineering or Chemical Engineering

Safety oriented

Good understanding of Gas Production technologies, Core processes (Air Separation Unit, Steam Methane Reforming, Membrane), and Adsorption (VSA) application

Good understanding of Air and Oxy Combustion and H2 applications

Demonstrated leadership; credibility and charisma to win and maintain team harmony and morale, even in times of uncertainty

Strong ability and appetite for interpersonal interactions with a wide range of stakeholders: researchers, Global Lab / Program director, market/product managers, sales/business representatives as well as with external parties such as customers, industrial, and academic partners
