Apex is seeking an Analytical Chemist for a growing Research client in the Newark, DE area. This is a permanent opportunity.

Summary: Responsible to help operate all analytical equipment, prepare full analytical packages to determine composition and purity, and relevant functions by performing the following duties

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prepare samples in the analytical department for testing (LCMS, GCMS and NMR)
  2. Load samples for testing
  3. Prepare solvent mixtures for LCMS
  4. Clean NMR tubes
  5. Assist in compiling of analytical data packages
  6. Help maintain a clean and safe work area in sample preparation area
  7. Maintenance and repair of instruments
  8. Trouble shoot software issues for the instruments
  9. Develop new protocols and methods to analyze samples
  10. Evaluate and purchase new instruments
  11. Review analytical data packages and determine data matches proposed structure.
  12. Considered company expert ion one of the following instruments: NMR, LCMS or GCMS

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

PhD in chemistry and 0-5 years industrial experience. A postdoc and other academic experience cannot account for more than 2 of these years.

A Master of Science in chemistry and 5-15 years industrial experience required.

Language Ability:

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and co-workers. Effective presentation of information and responses to questions from managers and co-workers.

Math Ability:

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have extensive knowledge of Microsoft® Outlook; Microsoft® Explorer; Microsoft® Word; Microsoft® Excel; and specific instrument software for the instruments in the analytical department

Technical/Specialized Equipment:

Must be able to operate the following equipment:

NMRs

Chiral HPLC

FTIR

GC

GC-MS

LC-MS's

Karl Fischer Titration Test

Polarimeter

Melting Point Apparatus

GPC

Physical Demands:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands and talk, hear and smell. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
