Job Description

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) the primary job responsibility is, “helping persons with disabilities to find happiness in their own homes, in their personal relationships and as contributing members of their community.” The Direct Support Professional is responsible for a variety of duties related to the overall care of individuals with disabilities. Work includes assisting each person to live in a home of his or her own, teaching and assisting with daily living skills, assisting with personal care, and promoting and advocating for the wellness of the people supported. This position helps achieve CSI’s mission by providing day to day supports which includes teaching, coaching, and supervising.  The Direct Support Professional is expected to think independently; to ensure people are supported in a manner that conforms to all applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations and standards.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary role of the Direct Support Professional (DSP) is to assist person we support acquire their daily-living skills, domestic, and socialization skills. Responsibilities will vary from case to case but may include: Supporting them in a variety of activities of everyday life such as attending a place of worship of their choice, any activity (swimming, and horse-riding) or to be more productive and participatory in community life.

Maintain annual training requirements 

Complete daily progress notes for each shift worked   

The environment may be fast-paced with interruptions, distractions and deadlines. DSPs need to be flexible and be able to adjust to changing needs or activities. Depending on the needs of the individuals, the work can be physically demanding including transferring or supporting people with mobility needs, lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs, walking or standing for extended periods of time or providing support through CPR/First Aid, behavioral support, and other interventions
