Job Description

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing assistance to the people Benedictine support. Delivers direct care to people supported (bathing, toileting, feeding, grooming, etc.) as directed by the RN in charge. Always maintains patient comfort and safety. Follows all policies and procedures as well as safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Adheres to Benedictine’s Core Values and mission with complete regard for the dignity of each person.

Need more details?  Here are the primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary and ambulating, turning, and positioning patients
  •  Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight; recording intake and output information. 
  • Takes care of patients personal hygiene by assisting with or giving bed baths, baths, or showers; toileting by offering bedpans and walking patients to the toilet; providing skin care; and keeping patients clean at all times.
  •  Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources, transporting patients and reporting observations of the person supported to supervisor.
  • Documents actions by completing reports, logs, and records in the timeframe set forth by management.
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping person supported information confidential and comply with HIPAA Privacy Act.
  • Serves and protects Benedictine by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Follow nurse instructions to perform procedures, including, but not limited to applying non-sterile dressings, ice packs, and heat treatments; giving sitz or therapeutic bath, if required.
  • Acts as a liaison between person supported and nurses. 
  • Provides support as Direct Support Professional when CNA duties are not required. 
  • Transporting patients to doctor's appointments when necessary.
  • Manages medication for household.
