Machine Operator

at Aerotek in CAMDEN WYOMING, Delaware, United States

Job Description

Description:

Client requests come through for metal tubing in various sizes/lengths. For instance they could get a request for a 30 foot ultra-small diameter tubing (down to the size of a hair follicle). They receive the tubing as raw materials (stainless steel/niche metals) and tubing must be run through a variety of manufacturing processes to make the metal more malleable – as the metal is drawn (pulled), it stretches thinner, into a desired shape and thickness. It will typically take 10-13 draws to get the tubing down to the correct size and shape. It must be heated, melted, reduced, extruded, degreased and cut. The tubing is then run through a tight coiling system for ultra-small tubes. As the tubing runs through the machines, machine operators are responsible for ensuring that the tubing doesn’t get tangled, they inspect for quality and then clean, cut, and coil the tubing. It is then shrink wrapped for shipment.

Quality checks are in place to ensure accuracy of the diameter, length, plugs and dies of the tubing. Tubing must be accurate down to the nominal degree of the order specifications. The tubing will also be put through a hydro test to check for imperfections. Candidates will be given the specs for each order and performance will be measured by their ability to meet these metrics (which vary for each order).

Machine Operators will be trained on a variety of machines including lathes, mills, draws, micrometers, multimeters, CNC, hydraulics, wheel drums, and furnaces.
