The Director, supplier payments risk strategy is a leadership role within the growing Global Business Financing, Payments and Digital Experiences team. This individual will be responsible for end-to-end Risk management for supplier payments and also drive high impact strategic projects in payments space. The individual will work in close partnership with colleagues across Risk, Product Management, Marketing, Finance, Capabilities, Compliance, Technologies, and Servicing. This position requires strong strategic, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills, and a proven ability to influence colleagues across American Express.
+ Lead and manage the credit risk strategy team for supplier payments, which includes payments capacity assignment, transaction risk scoring, portfolio management, fraud checks and future product enhancements; ensuring we are driving business growth while creating excellent Risk processes
+ Identify commercial credit risk metrics (e.g. KRIs and KPIs) to continuously monitor and oversee risk
+ Lead high impact strategic projects which co-opt industry best practices for American Express
+ Provide in-depth analysis for the commercial credit portfolio using latest techniques and present findings to senior leadership team. Directly manage several commercial non-card product portfolios, helping to build out risk capabilities to support growth.
+ Identify new and alternate data sources and tests them for the Commercial portfolio
+ Drive in-depth analytics and collaborate with the Decision Science team to enhance economic logic that supports core risk management decisions
+ Ensure Risk Management capabilities are aligned with business strategy and strategic growth initiatives, including launch of new business practices, products and services
+ Lead, engage, and inspire a team of high performing risk management professionals
+ Focus on talent development and team culture. Create a cohesive team in which all employees have well-defined roles with clear scope and distinct responsibilities
+ 5 years of experience in credit risk management with an in-depth understanding of the end-to-end credit lifecycle, credit metrics and processes. Prior work experience with Commercial or Payments products is also helpful.
+ Strong analytical skills and an innovative approach to solving both practical and theoretical problems
+ Experience working to build out capabilities that connect several products/platforms, balancing outcomes and practicality in decision making.
+ Ability to learn new skills and programing languages and or software tools
+ Intellectual curiosity, adaptability in a dynamic environment, and ability to reinvent processes and infrastructure
+ Ability to build strong working relationships, operate in large cross-functional teams, and influence colleagues to drive change
+ High quality written and oral communication skills with ability to synthesize key points/priorities and influence business decision making
+ Results driven team player with a positive “will to win” attitude who excels in dynamic high pressure environments that require navigating ambiguity
+ Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels in the organization as well as with external partners
