The Efficacy and Learning division of the Global Product organization is looking for a Principal Learning Designer, Assessment to join our Learning Research & Design team. The core mission of the Efficacy and Learning team is to improve the impact that Pearson’s products and services have on learner outcomes. Thus, the position provides the opportunity to facilitate cutting-edge learning research and design that makes a substantial contribution to learning and instruction.
Reporting lines: The role reports to the Director of Learning Research and Design and will work closely with product management, researchers, learning scientists, efficacy delivery managers, user experience designers, and product marketers.
The anticipated starting salary range for Colorado-based candidates expressing interest in this position. is $95K. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program.

This role is critical for the outcomes-focused evidence-based product design that’s essential to delivering on our commitment to efficacy. The Principal Learning Designer, Assessment will be part of a team dedicated to optimizing learning within Pearson’s next generation of evidence-based, global technology products.
+ Lead efficacy-driven research-based assessment design innovations
+ Lead outcomes-focused evidence-based design for next gen digital learning products, including the design of technical capabilities as well as content and assessment strategies and incorporate education research, learning models, and discipline context in collaboration with others in a range of job functions
+ Advocate for strategic approaches to outcomes-focused evidence-based design, including the design, application, and validation of scales, progressions, and frameworks
+ Build assessment and learning design capacity within the organization through training and the development of scalable processes and resources.
+ Validate and refine evidence-based design decisions through education design research
+ Contribute to other design, development, research, and evaluation tasks, as needed
Are you right for us?
+ You have led initiatives in assessment research or design including designing assessment capabilities and experiences in learning technology, software, or learning environments.
+ You have gathered and applied peer-reviewed scholarly research related to assessment / learning design
+ You have online and /or classroom teaching experience, which is strongly preferred
+ You have enough breadth of experience designing formative and summative assessments in digital learning / assessment solutions to be responsive to novel challenges
+ You have used principled assessment design practices (e.g., Evidence-Centered Design) in new forms of assessment
+ You have enough fluency in learning design principles from cognitive psychology and allied fields to apply them to solve problems for learners
+ Your experience in higher education and lifelong learning environments is a plus.
+ You can synthesize and apply research from the learning sciences to product design in clear, tangible, documented ways.
+ As a plus, you have experience using statistics software (e.g., SPSS, R) to investigate the reliability and validity of assessments
+ You understand the challenge of balancing customer needs, organizational priorities, resource limitations, and research & design integrity in a commercial environment – and you have the innovative mindset to generate creative solutions.
+ You are flexible and able to adapt plans in response to changing market conditions
Collaboration and Communication Skills
+ You communicate clearly and in a way that is accessible to audiences with different areas of expertise about research-based assessment design with stakeholder audiences that have diverse backgrounds and expertise, including customers.
+ You connect and maintain cooperative relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
Master’s degree or higher in Assessment and Measurement, Learning Science, Cognitive Psychology, Educational Psychology, Learning Design, or related field or equivalent academic experience is required
