Job Summary (Primary function)

The Senior Cost Accountant is primarily responsible for the design and preparation of the monthly accounting close activities related to inventory and cost accounting. The incumbent assists with calculating standard costs, inventory valuation, variance analysis, and annual budget product costs.

Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)

Lead all aspects of planning, reporting, and analysis of product costing (including standard), variances, revaluation and inventory including the design and maintenance of the costing module in the Company's ERP system.

Prepare reporting, analysis, and reconciliations of cost of goods sold and inventory accounts for month end close. Prepare journal entries for cost of goods sold, sample inventory, inventory in transit, inventory accruals, and capitalized variances. Reconcile inventory to third party inventory reports and resolve discrepancies.

Design the inventory reserves methodology and prepare and ensure inventory reserves are calculated appropriately on a monthly basis by collaborating with the Supply Chain, Commercial, and Financial Planning teams.

Drive continuous financial improvement through gross profit analysis, inventory analysis, new product analysis, and spending analysis. Identify inventory at risk and present results to Management. Collaborate with inventory planners from Supply Chain to identify matters affecting inventory levels.

Prepare inventory footnotes and supporting cost of goods sold analyses. Partner with External Reporting to ensure appropriate disclosure of inventory balances and cost of goods sold.

Ensure the appropriate and adequate internal controls are in place in accordance with SOX and Company procedures as it relates to inventory and fixed assets, includes liaising with internal and external audit teams.

Responsible for designing and maintaining inventory policies and procedures.

Perform ad-hoc analysis to support business decisions.

Co-ordinate with tax department on transfer pricing and related matters and coordinate related accounting matters.

Coordinate physical inventory observations and inventory cycle counts as required.

 

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)

Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting.

CPA preferred.

5+ years of accounting experience

Knowledge of US GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and controls.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and business partnering skills.

Demonstrates the ability and motivation to work independently with minimal oversight.

Proven ability to suggest and implement changes.

Proven analytical, critical thinking and project management skills.

Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines in a fast paced and growth-oriented environment.

Experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries strongly preferred.

Knowledge of SAP preferred.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Solid attention to detail and ability to develop technical accounting skills.

Proven ability to work collaboratively and in a team environment.
