Emerald Family Office and Advisory is M&T Bank and Wilmington Trust’s top-tier wealth planning offering employed to attract, deepen and broaden relationships with qualified wealth clients and prospects. We seek a seasoned attorney or CPA with dedicated experience in philanthropic or charitable planning to join our national team to serve as our National Director of Philanthropic Planning.
The National Director serves as the subject matter expert and authority in philanthropy and charitable planning and works directly with prospects and clients. As a nationally recognized authority in the field, represents the Company at industry-leading events and conferences, may have periodic media exposure, and provides expert guidance and knowledge through presentations, workshops, and white papers. The National Director may also serve as the lead planning expert for fiduciary, tax, private banking, insurance, cash flow analysis and family office with qualified wealth clients and prospects within their region and may be the primary point of contact between Emerald Advisory Services, the Bank and Wealth Advisory division.
The National Director will work extensively with individuals and nonprofit organizations regarding estate, trust, and charitable gift planning and in advising nonprofit corporations and trusts, including private foundations and public charities. The National Director serves as the lead planning expert related to charitable gift planning, private foundation operations and governance, charitable trust administration, nonprofit investment restrictions and wealth preservation and protection strategies. The National Director is a primary resource to our regional Wealth Strategists who represent Emerald Family Office and Advisory in the market and collaborates with other wealth management team members and partners to identify, evaluate, and implement wealth management strategies, tactics and solutions that include trustee services, investment management, private banking, insurance, estate settlement and family office services. The National Director of Philanthropic Planning may serve as the primary point of contact for the client or prospect at times during the relationship.
+ Apply in-depth, industry-leading knowledge, directly or indirectly, to support the delivery of advice and guidance to wealth, fiduciary and Bank clients and prospects related to philanthropic planning, and generally for the largest opportunities in the high net worth, ultra-high net worth and institutional wealth space.
+ Foster client relationships from-time-to-time, serving as temporary point of contact for questions from the client and/or client representatives, and may serve as the lead planning expert for qualified wealth clients and prospects within their region.
+ Maintain a high level of visibility for the Company within industry and with centers of influence through local, regional and national speaking engagements, including professional legal and accounting conferences. Periodically publish leadership pieces through our Thought Leadership channel internally as well as through local and national publications.
+ Improve the skills, knowledge and abilities of Emerald Family Office and Advisory, and the broader Wealth Advisory division, through periodic internal training as well as consulting on prospects and client cases, even when not actively involved.
+ Partner with other members of Wealth Advisory leadership to set strategic direction within the area of philanthropic planning and related services, deployed internally and externally. Work with fiduciary administration and fiduciary risk management to develop and implement service offerings related to charitable gift planning, private foundation operations and governance, charitable trust administration, nonprofit investment restrictions and wealth preservation and protection strategies.
+ Maintain leading and cutting edge knowledge to keep the Company at the forefront regionally and nationally in the area of philanthropic and charitable planning.
+ Develop and maintain relationships with attorneys, accountants and other centers of influence to drive new wealth and banking business opportunities and provide our clients with professional referrals to meet their unique planning needs.
+ Leverage expertise by developing strong working relationships within Wealth Advisory through direct support on prospect and client work as well as periodic internal training sessions related to philanthropic and charitable planning.
+ Participate in development of prospects with members from Emerald Family Office and Advisory as well as Wealth Advisors and other business development partners, including the Commercial Bank, to retain existing relationships and develop new client relationships.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9 years’ relevant industry experience and knowledge working with high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, including closely-held business owners, in charitable gift planning, including federal and state income, in estate and trust planning, wealth management/financial services, Federal transfer and/or income tax, business succession planning or in a fiduciary practice, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 9 years’ relevant industry experience and knowledge working with high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, including closely-held business owners, in charitable gift planning, including federal and state income, in estate and trust planning, wealth management/financial services, Federal transfer and/or income tax, business succession planning or in a fiduciary practice

Education and Experience Preferred:
JD (Juris Doctor) or Master of Laws (LLM) degree or Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA)
Admission to practice law in any state; if CPA, licensed in any state
Minimum of 12 years’ experience in wealth management and high net worth and ultra-high net worth planning, working with closely -held business owners and families regarding charitable estate and income tax planning and estate and trust planning generally
Demonstrated successful external business development experience
Robust network of centers of influence
Significant experience working with individuals and business owners with $20 mm or more in net worth and/or institutional advice and guidance for endowments and foundations
Prior success driving prospect and client opportunities to completion as well department, division and corporate projects
