Context of the Job:

The Office of Orientation and Transition Programs seeks a Program Coordinator to join our team. Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, the Program Coordinator works collaboratively to develop, plan, and implement comprehensive orientation programs for new undergraduate students and their families. The Program Coordinator directly supervises several student leader teams and facilitates their training, development and supervision. In addition, the Program Coordinator coordinates and implements large scale campus-wide events and programs. This position must work collaboratively with key campus partners, including academic deans and administrative staff within and outside of the Division of Student Life, to create programming that supports students’ transition, retention, and success at the University of Delaware. The Program Coordinator must possess a high level of independent judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills.

Major Responsibilities:

+ Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director to strategically develop, coordinate, and administer comprehensive orientation and transition programs for all new undergraduate students and their families.

+ Assist with the coordination of recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of the undergraduate orientation leader team. Serve as co-instructor for UNIV367, Orientation Leader Training Course.

+ Supervise 4 OTP student coordinators and the New Student Orientation (NSO) and 1743 Welcome Days student leader teams. Conduct regular formal and informal performance appraisals of staff to assess students’ growth and development.

+ Assist with recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of 2 graduate interns.

+ Collaborate with Assistant Director in the development and implementation of transition programming for specialized populations, including transfer, commuter, veteran, and international students. Design programming and independently implement events to support the persistence of these student populations.

+ Serve on the 1743 Welcome Days Leadership Team, assisting with the overall coordination of fall and spring programming as well as communication and marketing. Design and implement specific events and programs for specialized populations during 1743 Welcome Days, including transfer, commuter, veteran and international students as well as spring admits.

+ Develop and organize calendar of on-going professional development and social opportunities for department’s diverse student leader teams. Design and facilitate student leader training retreat and workshops to enhance student leader learning and growth.

+ Serve on variety of University and Division of Student Life committees as needed, including Transfer Student Working Group.

Perform additional duties as assigned to support the department and the Division of Student Life.

Qualifications:

+ Master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, higher education or other related field and at least one year of directly related experience.

+ Experience working in orientation or first year programming in a university setting.

+ Ability to motivate, develop, direct and train assigned staff including coordinating and supervising work.

+ Experience coordinating large scale events and programs both independently and as part of a team.

+ Understanding of college student development theory and practice within the areas of

orientation, transition, and retention.

+ Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently and make independent decisions in keeping with the level of the position.

+ Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with key campus stakeholders.

+ Effective interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

+ Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

+ Ability to work flexible hours when required.
