We are seeking an experienced biochemist to join our Applied Technology Division at Incyte Research Institute to drive early drug discovery. The ideal candidate should have hands-on laboratory research experience focusing on one or more of the following areas, biochemistry, biophysics, enzymology or chemical biology. The candidate should have deep interest in applying both the theoretical and practical aspects of biochemistry and/or enzymology in drug discovery. In addition to scientific qualifications, candidates with a growth mindset, a can-do attitude, team-working behaviors, and effective communication skills, will succeed and excel in this role.
Key Job responsibilities
Design, develop and execute biochemical and biophysical assays to support target based hit identification, hit qualification and lead optimization
Provide molecular mechanistic insights and guidance to lead optimization teams
Interact and collaborate effectively with both internal and external partners to progress projects towards milestones, including but not limited to, medicinal chemistry group, preclinical pharmacology group, and biologics group etc
Prepare and write technical reports to support drug candidate nomination, internal and external presentations and publications
Contribute to lead discovery and lead-optimization strategies for new targets
Seek, evaluate and implement new technologies and capabilities to increase speed and quality of early drug discovery
Potential to lead early drug discovery projects
PhD in biochemistry/biophysics/enzymology/chemical biology, with 1-3 years of independent post-doctoral research and 3+ years of industrial drug discovery experience, or equivalent
Hands-on experience and fundamental understanding of the working theories of biochemical and biophysical assays, including labelled and label-free technologies. Knowledge with mass spectrometry based methods is a plus
Critical understanding of protein/enzyme working principles, including enzyme kinetics (steady state and pre-steady state), enzyme catalytic mechanism, and ligand-induced conformational and population dynamics, and ability to reduce data into mechanistic models to help drive small molecule prioritization and optimization
Experience with data analysis software, such as Prism, XL fit, Genedata. Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Spotfire is a plus
Project leadership experience is a plus
