The Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports nursing tasks and care through direct care to students in the school residential setting. The HCA is knowledgeable of assigned student needs and specific plan of care, and uses this knowledge to support and provide care to resident students.
Need more details? Here are the primary duties and responsibilities:
Under the direction of the On Duty Nurse, perform needed medical support functions such as checking vital signs, performing finger prick blood-sugar checks, etc.
Monitor and assist, as needed, with feeding utilizing feeding tubes.
Administer medication following established procedures.
Share pertinent information with nurses to contribute to plan revisions and overall care.
Observe students for changes in condition or behavior and promptly report to infirmary.
Maintain accurate, confidential, and appropriate records following established procedures.
Provide medical first aid services in the absence of the school nurse according to established procedures and nursing care plans.
Function in a direct care position in a suite or transitional home when needed to care for students, especially those with complex medical needs.
Collect student-specific data including medical, feeding, behavioral, etc.

Must have High School diploma or GED if 21 years old or older; Associates degree in social services or related field required if between the ages of 18 and 21; Associates degree, or 48 credit hours post high school, or passing of a related Paraprofessional test, preferred.
Prior experience working with children and youth with developmental disabilities required.
RCYCP certification a plus. If not currently certified, will be required to achieve certification within 120 days of start date.
Prior experience as a medical assistant, CNA, EMT, or LPN a plus.
Must have current Med Tech certification in State of Maryland or be able to obtain Med tech certification within 90 days of start date.
Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in US upon offer.
Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
Must pass pre-employment criminal background checks through CJIS as stated in Family Law Article 5-561, and pass pre-employment CPS check.
Must have current and valid driver's license in good standing and must have a driving record that would permit coverage under Benedictine driver's insurance.
