CCB Chief Data Office helps the firm understand, manage and anticipate data risks in a constantly changing environment. The Privacy organization in the Chief Data Office cover all aspects of privacy supporting the line of business, such as handling individual rights request, privacy impact assessment and evaluate and development of platform for managing and protecting privacy related data. The team also provides oversight and guidance across CCB on privacy related topics in coordination with our firmwide, Legal and Compliance partners to maintain an effective control environment.

Job Description

Executive Director – Privacy Data Risk Management

We are currently seeking an Executive Director level candidate to lead the Privacy Data Risk Management team. In this key role you will be managing a small team of analysts responsible for the execution of functions foundational for compliance with privacy legislation and risk management. You will oversee activities that need to be managed comprehensively across CCB to provide a complete view of Privacy Data Risk. These will include, but are not limited to the following:

+ Discovery of PI Data

+ Classification/Tagging/Lineage and Inventory of PI Data

+ Regulation Management

+ Privacy by Design

+ Oversight for Third Party Management privacy requirements

+ Data Privacy Impact Assessments

In this highly visible role, the successful candidate will demonstrate analytic and oversight leadership through business acumen, collaboration, and effective communication skills with senior management and partnership across the firmwide teams. The successful candidate should have proven ability to provide innovative ways to assess disparate data to see the bigger picture, and hands on experience with coalescing data sets from various data stores. The candidate will also possess strong management skills to ensure proper identification and execution of control functions.

Core Responsibilities

The person in this role will be responsible for working with CCB CDO Privacy Lead, other line of business Privacy Champions, CCB & Firmwide Data Use teams, Firmwide Data Management teams and the Global Data Risk Management team to develop and execute a strategy to manage Privacy Data risk.

Responsibilities include:

+ Provide ownership for the discovery, classification, tagging, and lineage of CCB PI data

+ Provide ownership for the CCB aspects of the PI Inventory, collaborating with the Firmwide Data Management team for requirements and development

+ Oversee the CCB privacy obligations from regulatory and policy drivers

+ Provide oversight for Third Party Management privacy requirements

+ Responsible for CCB Data Privacy Impact Assessments

+ Develop a strategy for the communication and execution of Privacy by Design for CCB

+ Develop a scorecarding and managing the required compliance of all privacy related data

The individual will supervise a staff of privacy data analysts who are responsible for coordinating with the Sub-Line of Business and functional partners to implement Firmwide Data Management policies within the CCB organization. The person filling this position will need to be able to partner and work across multiple cross-functional areas, including Technology, Risk, Finance, Compliance, Legal, Sub-Line of Business Operations, and the Firmwide Data Management office. The person will need to understand key business initiatives and to integrate privacy activities accordingly.

This role requires a strategic vision for the management of data, along with an understanding of privacy functions. The position requires strong hands-on technical skills for the basic collection and structuring of data, including knowledge of data structures and operating environments, as well as a broad understanding of critical business initiatives as they relate to data. The role will require the ability to balance business and technical relationships to accomplish delivery if desired results. Experience with managing scrum teams in an agile environment is a plus, but not required.

The individual should be able to garner respect by treating people fairly, allowing opposing views to be heard, escalating issues as appropriate, and must have the subject matter expertise to drive planning, issue resolution, and execution. The ability to distill complex ideas and concepts into digestible and understandable components is also critical to this position. Relationship and influencing skills are very important in this position as many of the resources required to plan and execute projects cross organizationally will be matrixed.

Additional responsibilities include

+ Guides the team in defining future state, breaking future state into defined projects, and executing through delivery

+ Collaborates directly with the business data owners to establish their adherence to data privacy requirements

+ Assesses proposed data sharing arrangements and evaluates associated risk

+ Navigates the organization well and partners with Risk, Finance, LOB, Control, and other functional partners to identify key dependencies and deliver results

+ Manages issues and management decisions to timely resolution.

+ Possesses strong knowledge of consumer businesses and ability to build and strengthen partnerships across functions and locations to achieve objectives

+ Communicates effectively with senior management to resolve conflicts through broad based decision making with key stakeholders.

+ Issues regular management reporting for business leaders

+ Provides clear leadership to staff, based on understanding of business issues and senior management guidance, and proactively determining new approaches as the needs of the business change


Ideal candidate would have

+ 10+ years of industry experience related to data, including data management, governance and controls

+ Experience in Privacy, including an understanding of privacy legislation

+ Experience in data analysis, reporting, data management, and other IT role experience a plus

Also, the candidate should posses

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present information in differing degrees of detail and form depending on the audience

+ Strong organizational and prioritization skills

+ Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people at all levels across all functions

+ Ability to work in a highly collaborative and matrixed environment to build consensus

+ Proven ability to build strong partnerships with colleagues, desire to learn quickly, be flexible and think strategically

+ Experience identifying strategic improvements and delivering measurable change

+ Experience in dealing with teams across the firm

+ Experience with relational databases (Teradata/Oracle) and knowledge of big-data (Hadoop – Hive and Impala) environment

+ Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate and present information at varying levels of detail depending on the audience.
